I get the Guts is a beserker and can ignore pain but Sol Badguy can control fire (and thus has some ranged attacks to him... I think). Even if you can ignore pain you can't ignore being engulfed in flames.
And as for being a mercenary that only guarantee's a certain level of basic proficiency in their trade (hence why blackwater's people end up dying/ as hostages).As independent contractors are actually more expendable from a strategic standpoint and are not bound to international conventions....

Guts isn't quite a berserker, he's just a badass.
The manga is still going on in Japan but I don't think it's stayed as good as it was at the beginning. The anime is full of holes, especially the end. I'd recommend at least reading the manga through where the anime covered.
In the manga, Guts acquires the Berserker armor. This may why they named it as such but I'm not real sure. The armor does exactly what it's called, turns him Berserk where he ignores pain and goes crazy. Normally this kills most people but Guts is traveling with a little witch girl at the time who is able to (barely) get him to take control and change back. He's usually pretty fucked up at this point as well.
The manga just continues on with Guts traveling with a crazy girl (I don't remember her name, the raped girl at the end of the anime who went crazy after the demon incident) and some other folks he's meant destroying all of the God Hand related demons while trying to find Griffith to destroy him.
The manga only comes out once a month as well so it's taking a long time to really advance on things.

Sol Badguy will win. He never fights with his full power (with the exception of when he's fighting That Man in GG2:Overture). Guts can withstand a lot of pain, but so does Sol (and even more actually, he can endure Justice's Gamma Ray and Dizzy's Wings of Light). And when Sol does remove his limiter (not like he'll need to, just Dragon Install or Flame Distortion will be more than enough), Guts' life will be over soon. And taking Sol's sword off won't really affect the fight much, considering Sol uses his fists a lot (even when wielding the sword, and kicks too).
